image-guided superficial radiotherapy (IG-SRT)

Whether young or old, skin cancer can happen to all of us, some may be worse than others, but there may come a time when you will need to seek medical attention for skin damage. When it comes to killing non-melanoma skin cancer, Image-Guided SRT has been shown to have superior outcomes.

At the Dermatology Associates of Mid Ohio, we promote follow-up care, detailed instructions that are easy to understand, and compassion until you are fully healed. We want to ensure that your recovery process is quick and as painless as possible with minimal scarring. If you require a biopsy or excision surgery treatment in the Mansfield, Bucyrus, or Marion areas. Dermatology Associates of Mid Ohio provides an outstanding experience with every visit before, during, and after your procedure.

about IG-SRT

Image Guided Superficial Radiotherapy, IG-SRT, is a non-surgical treatment for non-melanoma skin cancers. It uses low levels of X-Ray energy to kill the cancer cells and allow normal tissue to grow back in its place. The energies we use to treat our patients are similar to those used in dental x-rays. IG-SRT uses ultrasound imaging to help determine the appropriate energy and dose. We also use ultrasound imaging to monitor your skin cancer’s progress as you go through the course of treatment.

  • After you and your provider have chosen IG-SRT, you will be scheduled for a Simulation. This is a 45-minute appointment with your provider and Radiation Therapist to establish treatment parameters. Your initial ultrasound will be taken during this appointment.
  • Your provider will review your medical history, biopsy report, and ultrasound to determine your prescription.
  • The Radiation Therapist will discuss your treatment schedule, skin care, and what to expect during treatment.
  • Treatments are typically 3-4 times per week for a total of 20 treatments. Each appointment is approximately 15 minutes.
  • You will see your provider once every 5 treatments to evaluate your skin and progress.
  • After you have completed treatment, you will return for a 2-4 week follow up. An ultrasound will be taken, and your provider will examine your skin to ensure you have achieved your cure.

What are the side effects of Image-Guided SRT?
